Plain definitions of the terms we use across AI tools, app growth, marketing and AI news. General definitions, not claims about our results.

AI Tools

8 terms
AI agent

Software where a model decides the next step and uses tools (files, a browser, commands) to reach a goal, rather than only answering one prompt.

See it in practice: Grokbot →
Automation

Letting software do a repeated task on its own so you stop doing it by hand. With AI, the task can include steps that used to need judgment.

See it in practice: Grokbot →
Context

Everything a model can see while it answers: your prompt, earlier messages and any files or code you give it. It is limited, so what you put in it matters.

See it in practice: Graft →
Model fallback

A backup model or provider that takes over when the first choice is rate-limited or fails, so the work keeps going.

See it in practice: 9Router →
Model orchestration

Splitting work across several models instead of sending everything to the largest one, for example one plans and reviews while a smaller one implements.

Rate limit

A cap on how many requests or tokens a provider lets you use in a given window. Hit it and calls are slowed or refused until the window resets.

See it in practice: 9Router →
Token

The small chunk of text a language model reads and writes, often a word or part of a word. Usage, cost and limits are counted in tokens.

Verification loop

A cycle where an AI agent runs the app or the tests, checks the actual result, fixes what is wrong and checks again, instead of trusting that the code is right.

App Growth

10 terms
Apple Ads

Apple’s advertising platform for apps, formerly called Apple Search Ads. It places ads in App Store search results and other App Store spots.

ASO (App Store Optimization)

Improving how an app ranks in App Store search and how many of the people who see its page install it. It covers metadata, keywords, screenshots and localization.

Conversion rate

The share of people who take the action you want out of everyone who had the chance, such as installs divided by product page views.

Custom product page (CPP)

An extra version of your App Store product page with its own screenshots and text, reachable by its own URL. Used to match the page to a specific audience or ad.

Free trial

A period in which a new subscriber uses the app without being charged. Billing starts afterwards unless they cancel first.

Keyword field

The App Store Connect field, 100 characters long, where you list comma-separated keywords. Users never see it, but it feeds search ranking.

Localization

Adapting an app and its store listing to a language and market: not only translated text, but the keywords, screenshots and wording people there actually use.

Paywall

The screen that offers a subscription or purchase to unlock premium features. Its wording, price display and timing shape how many users convert.

Subscription group

In App Store Connect, a set of subscriptions of which a user can have only one active at a time, so people upgrade or downgrade instead of paying twice.

Subtitle

The 30-character line under the app name on the App Store. Users read it and search indexes it, so it carries both a pitch and keywords.

Marketing

2 terms
CAC (customer acquisition cost)

What it costs, on average, to win one new customer: total spend on acquiring customers divided by the number of customers it brought in.

UTM parameters

Tags added to the end of a link (such as utm_source) so analytics can tell which post, ad or email a visitor came from.

AI News

2 terms
Benchmark

A standard test used to compare models on the same tasks. A high score shows how a model did on that test, not how it will do on your work.

Open-weight model

A model whose trained weights are published so anyone can download and run it. That is not always the same as fully open source: training data and code may stay closed.
